TUTORS
Niall Oliver (fiddle) – Niall is a Gaelic-medium primary teacher now working in Islay but well-known to us from his time in Cornaig school.
Gordon Connell (accordion) – Gordon, a retired teacher from Cornaig School, has taught the box to generations of Tiree children. Several of his pupils have gone on to become professional musicians.
Sophie Isaacson (guitar) – Sophie (ex-Trail West) comes from Tiree and works as the island’s youth worker.
Iona Brown (Gaelic singing) – Iona also comes from Tiree and is studying Celtic at Glasgow University.
Andreas Wolff (video) – Andreas, a fluent Gaelic-speaking German polyglot, is the local BBC reporter for Gaelic radio.
Jessie Gray (ceilidh dancing) – Jessie has just retired as head teacher of Tiree primary school and has been encouraging dancing on the island for many years.
Liam MacIntyre (shinty) – Liam, a maths teacher, plays for Fort William and has several cup-winners’ medals.

The old Kirkapol chapels (behind the Lodge Hotel)
A celebration of the Christian heritage of Tiree on one of the earliest Christian sites in Scotland which goes back 1,500 years. The two medieval chapels (the oldest buildings on Tiree with standing walls) are possibly on the site of St Columba’s original monastery on the island. Afterwards we will pray at the Latin cross carved on nearby rocks and the older 14th century chapel. The service will have Gaelic and English and will be led by Professor Donald Meek, Rev Peter Williams and Frank Gibson.

'By Sea to Tiree: Shipping Services and their Effect on Tiree and other Islands', an illustrated talk by Professor Donald Meek, recently retired from Edinburgh University. Donald, a native of Caolas, has had a lifelong passion for boats and has published the best-selling book The Kingdom of MacBrayne.

The new cinema, The Rural Centre, Crossapol
Back by popular demand, some old and some newly-acquired archive films about the island and a look at the work the BBC LAB team have been doing with the young people at the Fèis. This will be the first film showing in the newly-refurbished cinema, the only one in the country that doubles as a cattle sale ring!

Tiree Jigsaw Competition

Teams go head to head in a speed competition using jigsaws of the OS map of the island. Come on your own or in ready-made teams, although we may juggle numbers around to give everyone a chance. You are seriously advised to have a good look at the map of Tiree first!

Not the usual Tutors’ Ceilidh! Take a handful of island musicians, add some kids from the Fèis, a few tutors and a sprinkling of anyone who wants to stand up and do a turn, expertly mixed by chair Donald Iain Brown. The evening begins with another performance of the hilarious short play An Coigreach by the West End Players directed by Mabel MacArthur, a play in Gaelic and English about the citizens of Balemartine and its suburbs!
Tickets £6 • Children £3 • A licensed bar will be available for refreshments during the evening. Raffle.
